An Nguyen

An Nguyen is a Vietnamese artist, educator and community builder who specializes in acrylic paintings and curating/managing art events.  Over the years she has demonstrated a commitment to creating art and to growing the Ottawa arts community. Seeing “Art as her truth,” she consistently paints to communicate with the public. 

Lately, her art aims to explore spirituality in themes like resilience, vulnerability, healing, and transcendence in order to ask questions about how the Asian community defines strength?

Her paintings depict beauty rooted in traditional Asian celebrations / customs, and reframes female Asian stereotypes and motherhood expectations. 

Born in Saigon, Vietnam, An was part of Canada's response to the refugee crisis post-Vietnam War. She studied fine arts at the University of Waterloo, and her paintings have been featured in galleries, festivals, public venues and on music album covers throughout Canada and internationally.
